our client is looking for a Junior Environmental Scientist in Free State on a permanent basis

Job Description and position details

The primary role of the Junior Environmental Scientist is to act as an objective enforcer of environmental compliance as stipulated by various conditions associated with relevant environmental laws, permits, licenses and management plans of the onshore production operation and its ancillary site activities.



Job Requirements and Responsibilities

Compilation of environmental monitoring reports;
Compilation of activity and site specific environmental management plans;
External report review;
Design and implementation of environmental monitoring programmes;
Field work, including sample collection;
Collection, preparation and analyses of environmental monitoring data (water quality, emissions, rehabilitation progress);
Undertake statistical assessments of environmental monitoring data;
GIS functions including general map-making and various forms of spatial modelling such as interpolation;
Correspond (where necessary) site-specific authorities;
Qualifications and Desired Characteristics

BSc Honours in one of the following fields: Ecology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Science and/or Geohydrology.
2 – 5 years’ working experience
Experience undertaking internal environmental audits and performance assessments;
Excellent working knowledge of applicable environmental laws;
Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel
Fluency in English and Afrikaans (written and spoken);
Valid driver’s license and off-road driving experience;
Good communication skills
Preferred experience in the following aspects:

Developing and implementing environmental monitoring programmes (water quality, biodiversity and emissions);
Environmental data collection, preparation and statistical analyses;
EIA compilation, review and project management;
Exceptional report writing skills;
Excellent working knowledge of ARC GIS;
Excellent working knowledge of South African environmental legislation; and
Computer proficiency in MS word, MS excel, MS power-point, MS projects.
Package & Remuneration
negotiable between 30-45K per month
