Candidate Requirements
The successful candidate requires a degree in Geoinformatics, or other related field or equivalent qualification, enhanced by at least 5 years working experience with proven technology applications in the following:

Server based GIS skills using ArcGIS Server or MapServer;
GIS programming and automation skills – ArcPy or Python spatial modules;
SQL Server or PostgreSQL experience is required.
The following would be advantageous:

Desktop GIS skills using ArcGIS Desktop and QGIS;
GIS programming against GIS REST APIs using JavaScript;
Statistical/Data analytics using R, SQL Server, Python or other;
Related RDBMS like MySQL, PostGIS development skills.
Candidates are required or must qualify to be affiliated with South African Geomatics Council (SAGS) as a GISc Technologist within a year after appointment. Practical experience as a GISc Technologist in the biodiversity or natural resources domain will be advantageous. The candidate must be in possession of a valid (unendorsed) Code B drivers’ license with one year’s practical driving experience. The successful candidate must demonstrate a good spoken and written command of English, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The appointee will be responsible for:

Support the unit to develop, maintain, enhance and deliver an effective Enterprise Geospatial Information Management (EGIM) project and platform at SANBI;
Support users through the development and implementation of work processes, so maximising efficiency and effective use of the EGIM environment and GIS resources;
Maintain and promote sound data governance as required by relevant policies and legislation in line with international and national best practices, ensuring quality and efficiency of outputs;
Assist with requirements, implementation and monitoring of GIS infrastructure.
