Job Specification
The role of Junior Social Scientist includes data management, quality assurance of transcripts, cross checking IsiZulu to English translations, analysis of qualitative data from interview and focus group discussions and dissemination activities including leading and/or contributing to writing manuscripts for publication with the support of the immediate supervisor.

Desired Experience & Qualification

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Master’s degree in Social Science
2. Must have a valid driver’s licence and experience in driving in rural areas

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

1. 1-2 years’ experience in relevant scientific fieldwork.
2. Strong knowledge of qualitative research data and analysis.
3. Experience of conducting literature reviews and producing publishable syntheses.
4. Evidence of excellent writing skills and/or capacity to produce research outputs.


ADVANTAGEOUS

1. A record of published research and evidence of a developing research career.
2. Basic knowledge of quantitative data and analysis will be an added advantage.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Ability to use a computer and software packages including MS-Word, PowerPoint etc.
2. Ability and experience in supervising staff
3. Ability to summarise information and provide progress reports
4. Ability to work both independently and as part of an international team
5. Ability to see projects through to completion
6. Willingness and ability to work long hours
7. Willingness and ability to work in strenuous field and rural conditions
8. Able to work to complete work in a timely manner
