Mitchell’s Plain Intermediate Care Facility (MPIC)- Managed by Aquarius Health Care (AHC) (NPO)

Mitchell's Plain Intermediate Care Facility is situated on the premises of Lentegeur Hospital, Mitchell's Plain and is (currently) a 160-bed in-patient facility accommodating patients for wound care, rehabilitation, palliative and convalescent care.

AHC is inviting you to apply for the following vacant post for a full-time fixed term contract from March 2019 and only renewable depending on the performance of the NPO and continued funding of the Department of Health.

Job Requirements

A degree in Speech and Language Pathology
Current registration with the HPCSA
1-year experience
A good knowledge and understanding of
CVA and how communication is impacted depending on the area affected
TBI
Palliative Care
Dementia and the impact that it has on feeding.
Police Clearance Certificate and Professional Indemnity
Job Responsibilities

Assessing in-patients with a variety of diagnosis (CVA, brain tumor, brain injury, esophageal/throat cancer, progressive neurological disorder, palliation) for language, motor speech, voice, dysphagia and cognitive-linguistic communication fallouts.
Managing and providing tailored therapy to the above-mentioned patients.
Family training and education on management at home, regarding swallowing disorders and/or communication fallouts.
Management of Rehabilitation Care Workers
Monitoring and managing students
In-staff training and education on swallowing and communication difficulties
Be able to work well within a multidisciplinary team, including input during ward rounds, morning handover meetings and discussions on management of patients.
Key Requirements

Must be passionate about making a difference toward patient quality of life (including decisions regarding enteral nutrition vs oral feeding and patient/family/cultural views)
Empathetic and understanding of the needs of patients, as well as the community in which they come from.
Must be willing to make resources and contribute to furthering the facility’s growth.
Be able to work well independently and within a team.
Be confident, as well as manage conflict appropriately.
