Position Purpose
The purpose of the position is to actively source and plan transport for the planned relocation and customer deliveries. The transport planner will make use of the Lean Logistics Transport Management System in order to aggressively negotiate the best transport rates possible whilst maintaining world class service deliverables to ultimately ensure customer satisfaction.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Order Allocation
Allocate loads planned for loads to be executed within specified time frames
Decide on appropriate transporter for all flows under the responsibility of Logistics Planning.
Follow up on late picks and drops and give needed feedback to business
Orders allocated must not exceed loading/ unload dates – outstanding report
Rate Negotiations
Aggressively negotiate lanes and rates with transporters in order to implement routing guides.
Be able to use reports on TMS to validate and negotiate better pricing and planning for transport arrangements as well as customer availability.
Analyse rates and rotes and suggest/ implement improvements.
Adhere to “Less than truck load” rate reduction process.
Monitor and Control the SPOT MARKET rates and ensure the cost does not exceed rates stipulated on rate tracker
Transport Service
Analyse service incidents and proactively propose actions for improvement.
Transporter accident and equipment loss follow up.
Assist transporters / customers with load planning regarding delivery / collection processes.
Report on delays and standing time for better, effective service to end customer.
Be prepared to ensure transport availability during peak seasons, and other seasonal activities.
Maintain a high “Customer collection and delivery service” to the business
Give effective feedback to Logistics team on non-captured loads for non-consignment service centers
Continuous cooperation with stock planning teams.
Transport reporting and admin.
Monthly transport reporting on prescribed zone/ territory.
Cross border document requirements to be completed and sent through efficiently
Assist with clearance and agents payment for all cross border related trips
Intervene between manual SAP creation and TMS in the event of changes, or updates on systems.
Report on all Basware queries and ensure payment is complete to transporters for invoices raised.
Challenges
Ensure we give the work to the optimal hauliers on the market while pushing them to provide us with the best service.
Slow truck turnaround times at customers / CHEP plants
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications
Degree / Diploma in Transport / Supply Chain
Experience
Supply Chain background an advantage
Experience in an central office environment is a plus
At least 5 years’ experience in transport management and tendering
