Job Purpose

Conduct and record safety, accident and incident investigations and risk inspections and provide safety support and coaching to the dedicated department. The main objective is to effectively monitor and manage all health and safety risks.


Responsibilities

Ensure safety and risk initiatives are monitored and properly administered
Ensure risk assessment and control measures meet requirements
Ensure legal compliance and safety meets standards and requirements
Ensure safety training meets standards and requirements
Ensure safety standards, working guides, procedures and codes of practise are relevant and applicable
Ensure emergency preparedness programmes are effective and adhered to
Implement safety risk, accident prevention programme
Verify and maintain that all safety risk/ accident prevention related procedures are updated and maintained
Administer safety incident reporting systems and comply with statutory requirements
Co- ordinate safety training programme
Implement a promotional and publicity programme to create safety awareness amongst all employees and contractors
Maintain an effective auditing system
Administer and maintain a programme on all relevant reports, establish trends and control deficiencies

Qualification and Experience

Grade 12 / Matric
Diploma in Safety Management
3 – 4 years’ experience in similar role in mining environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, risk assessment methodology and environmental management
Experience in incident investigation
Evaluate and implement different incident prevention principles
Project management skills would be an added advantage
COMSOC I ⅈis a prerequisite
Knowledge of OSHAS 18 001, 9001 & 14001
Sound administration and good report writing skills
Understanding of Isometrix system would be an added advantage
Ability to work independently and as part of multi-functional team
Driver’s license code 08/EB
